CHICAGO, IL (October 19, 2016) – Sterling Bay and Mid-America Real Estate Corporation (Mid-America) today announced a formal partnership whereby Mid-America will serve as the leasing agent on the developer’s portfolio. Mid-America’s Principal Paul Bryant and Vice President Andrew Becker will join Sterling Bay’s vice president and head of retail leasing and strategy, Jessica McLinden Brown, in leading the lease-up of the majority of the firm’s retail space throughout Chicago.
With this agreement, Sterling Bay gains one of the most formidable leasing duos in the region to supplement its in-house efforts on a retail portfolio that continues to grow rapidly. Bryant and Becker’s support in Chicago will be vital as Sterling Bay begins its national expansion, with McLinden Brown overseeing Sterling Bay’s retail strategy not only in Chicago, but in new markets like Miami, Portland and Nashville, among others.
“We continue to see an increased need for retail offerings in areas where we are building and/or own properties. This dramatic growth necessitates a more robust team to handle these expanding needs,” said Managing Principal Andy Gloor. “We are pleased to have Paul and Andrew working with our in-house team.”
Bryant and Becker are already familiar with Sterling Bay’s platform having leased 1000 West Randolph and 945 West Randolph alongside McLinden Brown. Together the trio has been instrumental in shaping Chicago’s Fulton Market retail landscape, completing leases with Starbucks Reserve, Anthropologie, Sweetgreen, Umami Burger and Nando’s Peri Peri.
Said McLinden Brown, “I’m thrilled to continue working with Paul and Andrew. They set the standard for excellence in retail leasing and together I believe we can execute a dynamic tenant line-up for our developments.”
With deep roots in retail, Bryant and Becker bring impressive credentials to the Sterling Bay team. Over the last five years they have partnered on nearly 30 transactions valued at $110 million, including deals with Champs Sports for its flagship location on State Street and Labriola Café on Michigan Avenue. Their exclusive focus on the Chicago urban retail market has resulted in a unique and strategic approach to retail within the city’s many neighborhoods.
“This is clearly a very exciting time for us,” said Bryant. “We admire and respect Sterling Bay and are thrilled to be part of the team.”
