Most of us are active members of ICSC as well as numerous other national, regional and local organizations designed to inform, update, network, guide and strengthen the shopping center real estate industry. In Minnesota we’ve taken it a step further in order to keep real time information and networking as up to date and vibrant as possible.
In 1988 a few brokers, developers and managers of retail real estate saw the need for an organization specific to the state of Minnesota. The Minnesota Shopping Center Association (MSCA) was then created for brokers, managers, developers, investors, retailers and service providers in the Minnesota shopping center industry. Those of us who were founding members have participated and watched this localized organization grow to have a membership base in excess of 650 people throughout the state.
MSCA has become an outstanding networking and educational organization providing monthly breakfast meetings with guest speakers and presenters ranging from the restaurant industry, to new retailer runways, to market trends and new developments, financing, security, legislative, construction and more. It provides an annual State of Retail report as well as annual development awards and strong philanthropic participation with charity sponsorships throughout the year.
In addition to having the opportunity to network at least once per month with hundreds of participants at breakfast meetings, MSCA also sponsors monthly learning sessions and has a legislative committee lobbying and shaping retail real estate issues at the State Capitol. By working with the state Department of Commerce, the organization has been able to provide continuing education credits to its licensed members. In Minnesota, you can complete nearly all annual real estate licensing continuing education credits by simply attending MSCA meetings throughout the year.
Our Mid-America Real Estate - Minnesota office is proud to boast multiple past presidents and three Hall of Fame members from this organization. We continue to help shape the state of retail real estate through MSCA with committee chair members that may go on to be future presidents, officers, board members and Hall of Fame winners for the organization. This really is Minnesota’s way to localize the benefits provided by the large national organizations. MSCA continues to provide active, Minnesota specific, learning, networking and business development opportunities during all 12 months of the year.
Any organization or individual who owns retail assets or works in any form of retail real estate, in the State of Minnesota, should seriously consider participating in MSCA. The benefits are strong and localized, drilling down to the everyday needs of its Minnesota membership. www.msca-online.com
