With the 2016 draft coming back to Chicago this week, the traffic south of the river on Michigan Avenue has already started to stack up. Last year, the NFL draft was a huge success for Chicago, as well as the surrounding hotels and retailers.
Per Bisnow's recent article, 5 Real Estate Happenings Around NFL Draft Town, Michigan Avenue “south of the river” has become a major focus for the institutional money looking for deals. Four out of the five developments mentioned in the article are proposed apartments and hotels which are the hot trends in commercial real estate investment right now. Retail has also been revived south of the river on Michigan Avenue between Wacker and Randolph. Many buildings are being renovated with new retail storefronts and either new hotels or luxury apartments above.
