Mid-America Signs Several Large Leases for Shopping Centers Across Great Lakes Region

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. (September 20, 2011) –  Richard Spinell, Principal of Oakbrook Terrace-based Mid-America Asset Management, Inc., announced that among the new leases  the firm has signed in July and August, there were several large transactions spread across Chicagoland, Southeast Wisconsin and Northwest Indiana. Recent highlights are listed below in order of transaction size.

AURORA, ILL (Kane County) – Privately held home furnishings retailer Premier Furniture Outlet leased 38,975 square feet at Aurora Marketplace, opening in September 1. Mid-America Vice President Marget Graham represented the landlord in the lease, while the tenant was self-represented. Aurora Marketplace is a 336,359 square-foot shopping center located on the northwest corner of Route 59 and 7th Street in Aurora, Ill., a western suburb of Chicago. Anchors include Sports Authority and Hobby Lobby.  

MISHAWAKA, IND. (St. Joseph County) – The Futon Factory, headquartered in Mishawaka, Ind., leased 11,000 square feet at Edison Park, an 87,788 square-foot shopping center located on the northwest corner of Route 59 and 127th Street in Mishawaka, a suburb of South Bend. The store opened September 1, having relocated from a nearby site, and joins anchors Starz Academy, Interim Healthcare, India Garden, Lincare and Faith World Outreach. In other leasing news at the center, Interim Healthcare recently expanded and renewed its lease totaling 4,300 square feet.  Mid-America Vice President Barb Kading represented the landlord in both leases, dealing directly with the tenants.

ALGONQUIN, ILL (McHenry County) -- Five Below, an “extreme value” discount store, leased 8,000 square feet at Oakridge Court and opened in August. Mid-America Senior Leasing Representative Jaimie Platt and Leasing Representative Sarah Drumgould represented the landlord in the lease, while the tenant was represented by Jon Reese and Tim Miller at Great Street Realty. Oakridge Court is a 289,178 square-foot shopping center located on the southwest corner of Randall Road and Harnish Drive in Algonquin, Ill., a northwest suburb of Chicago. Anchors include JCPenney, Toys R' Us, Babies R' Us and TJ Maxx.

KENOSHA, WISC. (Kenosha County) – Dallas-based Tuesday Morning, a publicly held closeout retailer of home accessories, leased 10,400 square feet at Southport Plaza in Kenosha, Wisc., with plans to open in fall 2011. Meanwhile, renewing leases at the center were OfficeMax for 23,370 square feet, Petco for 17,600 square feet, and Subway for 1,200 square feet. Mid-America Principal Dan Rosenfeld and Broker Associate Theresa Shemitis, along with Mid-America Vice President Barb Kading represented the landlord in the leases, dealing directly with the tenants. The 371,704 square-foot shopping center is located on Highway 50 and Green Bay Road in Kenosha, and is anchored by Kohl’s, Petco and Office Max. 

CHICAGO, ILL (Cook County) – D & E Laundry Ltd., signed a lease for 5,026 square feet at Howard & Western Shopping Center and is now open for business.  Mid-America Vice President Barb Kading represented the landlord in the lease, dealing directly with the tenant. The 89,129 square-foot shopping center is located on the southwest corner of Howard Street and Western Avenue in the City of Chicago, and is anchored by Dots, Rent-A-Center and Fifth Third Bank.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, ILL (DuPage County) – Privately held Arthur Murray Dance Studio signed a lease for 3,200 square feet to open its 11th location at Regency Place in Oakbrook Terrace in October 2011. Mid-America Vice President Mary Beth Menelli-Iveljic represented the landlord in the lease, with Mark Coleman of Coleman Land Company representing the tenant.  The 14,400 square-foot shopping center is located on the northeast corner of Meyers Road and 22nd Street in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., a western suburb of Chicago. Arthur Murray Dance Studio joins Volare Ristorante Italiano.
