Kay Nelson is a principal and vice president with Mid-America Asset Management based in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. With more than 30 years of property management experience, her last 20 years have been dedicated exclusively to retail management. Ms. Nelson joined Mid-America Asset Management in 1994 as a property manager, becoming principal in 2001.
As a principal, Ms. Nelson oversees client coordination for much of the 55 million square feet of retail space that Mid-America manages. As such, she supervises a multi-state portfolio of institutional and entrepreneurial clients in all areas of retail asset management, from strategic planning and leasing support to market analysis and capital repair supervision. She is also involved in new business development for the firm, and supervises a staff of asset managers, accountants and administrative assistants, while directing employee development and training.
Prior to joining Mid-America, Ms. Nelson was senior portfolio manager for Baird & Warner Inc. based in Chicago, Illinois, where she managed 18 shopping centers in a tri-state area. During her tenure there, Ms. Nelson was recognized as Property Manager of the Year in 1991 and Team Player of the Year in 1993.
Preceding her position with Baird & Warner, she was a property manager for ICD, a Chicagoland owner/developer of retail shopping centers.
Ms. Nelson holds an Illinois Real Estate Brokers’ License and an Indiana Real Estate Brokers’ License. She is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Women in Retail Leasing (WIRL).
